PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Montana Tech's men's golf team closed the gap on the lead but fell back into third place Tuesday in the second round of the Frontier Conference/California Pacific Conference NAIA Qualifier at Papago Golf Club.
The Orediggers are 18 over par at at 594 through two rounds, 16 strokes off of first-place Rocky Mountain and three from second-place Simpson.
Freshman Carson Hupka is tied for second in the individual standings at 1-under-par 143 through the two trips around the par-72 course.
Sophomore Joe McGreevey was tied for the low round in the field Tuesday, carding an even-par round of 72. McGreevey is the second Tech man and sits ninth in the field at a two-round score of 149.
Tyler Avery, Joe Opitz, and Gabe Witham also checked into the top 15.
In order to receive an automatic berth to the NAIA national championship, the Frontier and Cal Pac conferences cooperated to meet the minimum number of six participating teams.
Second-round results, final-round pairings, and live results for the duration of the tournament are available through Golf Genius. The qualifier will proceed with its final round Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. PDT, 8:30 Mountain in a shotgun start.
