RICHLAND, Wash. -- The Montana Tech women's golf team rolled to victory Monday at the Columbia Basin Invitational, taking the top three individual spots along the way.
The Orediggers extended their team lead from seven strokes to 24 on their second time around the par-72 course at Meadow Springs Country Club, matching their Round 1 team score of 41-over-par 258 in Tuesdays final 18 holes. Tournament host Columbia Basin finished second at 106 over par. The tournament's rules counted the top three of the six-player team from each round.
Emma Woods stormed from seven shots back to lay claim to medalist honors. The junior from Fairfield rebounded from her first-round 90 to shoot 81 on Day 2. It was the best Monday round of any golfer in the field.
Woods' 36-hole score of 171 was good enough to edge teammates
Samantha Benson (83-89—172) and
Casha Corder (85-87—172), who finished tied for second a stroke behind.
Kodie Hoagland joined the trio in the top 10, carding a pair of 89s to finish seventh with 178 strokes.
Hayden Pride (99-89—188, 11th),
Samantha Moore (91-98—189, t-12th),
Franchi Ceartin (95-94—189, t-12th), and
Delaney Clark (97-103—200, 19th) rounded out the 29-player field for the Orediggers.
The victory was the second of the season for Montana Tech. The Orediggers also won the Providence Invitational in Shelby in September.
Montana Tech will now set its sights on the Frontier Conference championship, which begins Monday, April 14 at Papago Golf Club in Phoenix, Ariz.
