DICKINSON, N.D. -- The Montana Tech women's golf team enjoyed another record-breaking day Monday in the opening round of the Dickinson State Invitational, shattering the program's low round record with a team score of 300.Â
The Orediggers sit in second place midway through the 36-hole tournament at Heart River Golf Course, just five strokes off leader Rocky Mountain.Â
Senior Kodie Hoagland became the first-ever Montana Tech women's golfer to shoot under par in a round, carding a 1-under 71 on the par-72, 5,747-yard course. The Butte product chipped in for eagle on the par-5 16th hole and added four birdies to her tally, tying her own record for the lowest single-round score in program history. She set that last week with an ever-par round at Eagle Falls Golf Course, rolling to victory at the Providence Invitational.Â
Hoagland sits just a shot out of the lead after Monday.Â
Sophomore Casha Corder was nearly as good, shooting an even-par 72 with a pair of birdies. She sits third.Â
Senior Hayden Pride also played into the top 10 on Day 1 with a 6-over 78 that put her tied for 10th, while freshman Keni Wade and senior Emma Woods are tied for 13th with 79s.Â
Freshman Olivia McGreevey sits tied for 25th with a season-best 87, and sophomore Delaney Clark is 34th after her tournament-opening 99.
The team score bested Montana Tech's previous four-woman best by seven strokes, which the women accomplished twice previously.Â
The Oredigger women will look to close the gap in search of a second win in two weeks in Tuesday's second round. Players go off at 9 a.m. in a shotgun start.
