HELENA -- Not much got past
Tel Arthur in No. 6-ranked Montana Tech's gridiron win Saturday.
Neither did the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference player of the week award. The league office named the Orediggers' middle linebacker its defensive football player of the week Monday, honoring a career-high 14 tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss, and two sacks in a 37-14 road win at No. 24 Southern Oregon.
Arthur, a senior from Missoula, ranks sixth in the NAIA in tackles this season. The Frenchtown High alumnus has registered double-digit tackles twice already this season. His 14 Saturday were the most by an Oredigger since
Cole Wyant made 21 stops in last October's win over MSU-Northern.
Montana Tech's defense was stifling Saturday in Ashland, Ore. when it mattered most. The Orediggers (4-0) held SOU to just 6-for-15 on third down and 0-for-4 on fourth down in the win. Tech didn't allow a score after halftime.
It was the first-career player of the week honor for Arthur.
He wasn't the only Oredigger to earn a player of the week accolade Monday; wide receiver
Levi Torgerson took home the offensive honor after his record four-touchdown performance. Montana Western kicker Maclain Burckley won the special teams weekly award.
Arthur, Torgerson, and the Orediggers will face off with No. 25 College of Idaho Saturday in a battle of the Frontier's final two unbeaten teams. Kickoff in Butte is scheduled for noon.
The Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference weekly awards program is nominated by and voted upon by the league's athletic communications professionals.
