HELENA -- Levi Torgerson's record-breaking effort earned the No. 6-ranked Montana Tech football team a huge road victory Saturday.
It also earned the Orediggers' senior wide receiver the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference offensive player of the week award Monday.
The Great Falls native piled up a program-record 222 receiving yards and (another) program-record four touchdown receptions in Tech's 37-14 win over No. 24 Southern Oregon. He caught eight passes total and amassed 283 all-purpose yards. He also completed a 29-yard pass on his only attempt.
Torgerson began the day with a five-yard catch on the Orediggers' game-opening touchdown drive, but his barrage started in earnest on the first play of Tech's third drive. Quarterback
Jarrett Wilson hit the senior for a 74-yard strike on the first play from scrimmage.
And that was just the beginning.
Wilson found Torgerson again in the second quarter to cap a 10-play, 78-yard scoring drive and again with 7:38 until halftime on another quick strike — a 70-yard touchdown that gave the Orediggers a 20-point lead. The pair hooked up again in the fourth quarter for a 43-yard TD.
Torgerson's 222 yards bested the former single-game receiving yards record of 219, set last season by
Wyatt Alexander. His four touchdown catches topped six prior Orediggers who caught three scores in a game, most recently Mitchell Keeton in 2016.
While Torgerson claimed the offensive accolade, Orediggers linebacker
Tel Arthur won the weekly defensive honor. Montana Western kicker Maclain Burckley won the special teams award.
Torgerson, Arthur, and the Orediggers will face off with No. 25 College of Idaho Saturday in a battle of the Frontier's final two unbeaten teams. Kickoff in Butte is scheduled for noon.
The Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference weekly awards program is nominated by and voted upon by the league's athletic communications professionals.
