HELENA -- The Frontier Conference's men's basketball coaches voted three Montana Tech players to the all-conference teams, the league office announced Thursday evening.
Senior
Hayden Diekhans garnered first-team honors, junior
Brayden Koch earned a second-team spot, and freshman
Asher Williams claimed the Frontier's sixth-man of the year award. Diekhans also landed on the all-defensive team.
Diekhans, a forward from Geraldine, led Montana Tech in minutes played (880), rebounding average (7.2), steals (40), and 3-point percentage (.425) through the regular season. The first-team all-conference honor is the second of his career, and it is the third-consecutive season Diekhans landed on the conference awards list. He earned the league's defensive player of the week award twice.
Koch, a guard from Helena, led the Orediggers at 14.8 points per game. He shot over 50 percent (125-for-242) from the field on the season and was over 40 percent from 3-point territory. Koch added 36 assists, 20 steals, and six blocks to his stat line.
Williams, a guard from Bonners Ferry, Idaho, was arguably the most impactful freshman in the conference this season. He ranked third on the team with 10.3 points per game and also chipped in 2.4 rebounds. Williams piled up 14 steals and 13 assists, and he shot 81.9 percent from the free throw stripe.
Carroll's Isaiah Crane was voted the conference player of the year, and JJ Montgomery from Bellevue took home the defensive player of the year award.
Drew Jones of Carroll won the freshman of the year award, Williams and Luke Holecek of MSU-Northern shared the sixth-man of the year honor, and Ahamed Bynum of Bellevue was voted newcomer of the year.
First-year Rocky Mountain coach Danny Neville won the Pepsi coach of the year award.
Montana Tech will carry the No. 5 seed into the Frontier Conference tournament this weekend at the Butte Civic Center. The Orediggers, who received votes in the latest NAIA coaches' poll, will play fourth-seeded Montana Western in the quarterfinal round Saturday at 5 p.m. Tech is in search of its fifth-straight Frontier tournament title.
