The Montana Tech Orediggers got the season started out the right way in Oregon by defeating Eastern Oregon University 23-7.
Eastern Oregon scored the first touchdown of the game on a 6 yard run by Chris McGinnis-Parker with six minutes left in the first quarter.
The Diggers answered back with offensive production of their own by scoring 13 points in the second quarter.
Montana Tech's
Zack Kinney scored the first touchdown of the year for the Orediggers by hauling in a 29 yard pass from sophomore QB
Herman Tapley. Kinney would lead the Orediggers in receiving with 5 catches for 61 yards on the day.
A pair of
Matt Berg field goals including one from 39 yards out as time ticked away gave Tech a 13-7 advantage at halftime.
In the third quarter
Matt Berg added a 38 yard field goal to push the lead to 16-7. The redshirt sophomore was 3-3 for field goals on the day for the Orediggers.
Pat Hansen had a monster game rushing 28 times and totaling 184 yards on the ground to go along with 20 yards receiving.
The Orediggers registered 195 yards rushing and 217 yards passing on offense while running a total of 92 plays.
A field goal block by
Tyler Denny prevented Eastern Oregon from scoring in the second half.
Junior corner
Andre Cornell had two interceptions in the game for Orediggers, the second of which was returned 39 yards for a touchdown.
Tech's defense registered 6 sacks in the ballgame.

David Meis, Boyce Ballard,
Jacob Workman,
Mike Touzinsky, and
Mike Waldman each had one sack.
Touzinsky led the Diggers with 11 total tackles including two solo tackles for loss.
